Breastmilk Composition: What Is It Made Of?

June 22, 2021 By Anna

Breastmilk is nothing short of incredible. Researchers have found that breastmilk has more than 200 components, some of which they have yet to discover what they do.

As a complete option for baby, breastmilk contains everything your newborn baby needs.

Further, breastmilk is not constant—it changes according to the day, night, age of baby, season, and breastfeeding pattern. Simply put, breastmilk adapts on a complex biological level.

Waiting and Ready for PPD: Anna’s Story

May 28, 2021 By Anna

Anna with postpartum depression out kinking with 3 kids

I knew that I was at higher risk of Postpartum Depression (PPD) after having my twins due to experiencing infertility and have multiples. My husband and I were watching for signs of it.

When I went into my 6-week postpartum visit, I wasn’t assessed for PPD; I wasn’t given the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to determine how I was feeling and how I was doing mentally. At that time, I felt “ok.” I felt overwhelmed and over touched, but I was sure that it was just because I had two newborns and a 2-year-old.

Breastfeeding Tips for Taking Care of a Toddler & a Newborn

May 12, 2021 By Anna

Mom talking to her toddler about new baby to prepare for the transition of having a newborn

Making the jump from one kid to two kids (or one to three like I did) can be daunting. You may ask yourself: how am I going to do this? This question may especially arise if you’re planning to breastfeed. Let’s face it. Breastfeeding requires us to slow down a bit (most of the time, for the better). However, that can be worrisome if you have an older child that needs you and your attention.

I want to empower you so that you feel more than capable of breastfeeding and tending to your older child, which is why I’m sharing tips on how to help both you and your older child navigate this new stage of motherhood you’re about to enter.

Mama Nutrition & Breastfeeding: What to Do & What Not to Do

March 25, 2021 By Anna

Mom nutrition while breastfeeding

For better or worse, there is no “perfect diet” to follow while breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding burns an extra 300-500 calories a day (per baby you are breastfeeding), and you may need to increase your food intake to make up for that. It’s essential to keep yourself fed even though having a new baby can sometimes keep you so busy you forget to eat. An easy way to make sure that you’re feeding yourself is to feed yourself when you feed baby.

After all, if you eat poorly, it’s more likely to negatively impact your health rather than your baby’s. It’s good to implement solid nutrition practices while breastfeeding. Read on to learn more.
